Irvington Superintendent Dr. Kris Harrison said the students of his district were "stars," during the daylong lockout.
Harrison said from the moment they (the district) learned of the issues throughout the Rivertowns, his "dedicated administrative team, faculty, and staff sprang into action to ensure the safety of our students."
Throughout the entire lock-out period, our schools remained secured with staff manning each door, the superintendent added.
"While there was a reason for concern, our students and staff were stars," he said. "I want to commend them for their cooperation and care for one another during this unnerving situation."
Harrison went on to thank the Irvington Police Department and Mayor Brian Smith for their support and concern for the school community.
"On the broader topic of school safety and security, I will write again tomorrow with an update on our efforts to enhance security in all of our schools," he added.
